Conejo Valley Up Close

By Andrea Pasion

Staff Writer-

Looking closely at its name, Conejo Valley would call to mind a land of rabbits.  That is because the word, Conejo is Spanish for the word, "rabbit."  And true to its name, Conejo Valley is home to thousands of wild rabbits and other interesting wildlife like squirrels and different bird species.  Forest, hills and grassy plains surround the towns of Agoura, Westlake Village, Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park, the towns which make up the vicinity of the Valley.  Several lakes located within the area also enrich Conejo Valley´s natural beauty, some of which are Westlake Village, Lake Sherwood, Lake Lindero and Malibu Lake.  Coupled with warm and dry summers, moderately cool winters and the natural protection of the Santa Monica mountains against smog, the Conejo valley area provides a wonderful habitat for wildlife and a pleasant atmosphere for the Conejo Valley residents.

Conejo Valley is located just forty minutes away from the city of Los Angeles, and only ten minutes away from the San Fernando Valley and the beaches of Malibu and Zuma.  So when the sea breeze wafts from the ocean, it gives the residents a cool clean dose of fresh air.

But aside from having the bounties of nature within reach, Conejo Valley has the convenience of a fast-developing metropolis.  There is a 26 mile stretch along the Ventura Freeway (US Highway 101) from Woodland Hills to Newbury Park that is called the "Technology Corridor."  It is the future being realized today as the area is slowly developing into one of Southern California´s major technology, business and research centers.  Already, there are a number top corporations and learning centers around the area like Lockheed Corporation, General Motors/Hughes Science Research Center, Amgen Corporation, Cal Lutheran University and Pepperdine University.

Also within the area are two major shopping malls where you can find a variety of shops, restaurants, movie theaters and supermarkets.  The award-winning Las Virgenes and Conejo Valley Unified School Districts are a proud part of the community as well.  While well-maintained parks and recreational centers including Wildwood Park and Malibu Creek State Park are just a quick walk or bike ride away.  The Westlake Village, Los Robles Medical Centers are within easy reach.

In the evenings, you can take a walk under the clear starry sky of the evening to turn an ordinary night into a romantic one.  The safe area of Conejo Valley makes this possible.  So you and your loved one can talk about raising a family in one of America´s best neighborhoods.

If you´re looking for the perfect place to spend a lifetime, hop on over to the Conejo Valley.
